Although due to the present economic conditions tourism had slumped in the 1990’s, it has risen again in the 2000 to 2005 period and continues to rise annually. Of memorable mention is the decrease in unemployment (decrease of more than 10%) in first half of 2000 to 2005 period and continuing to decline.
Foreign investment in the area continues to improve as hypermarkets are on the rise. This foreign investment continues to improve. Such investments amounted to some €125 million in the year 2005.
