Burgas (Bourgas) Region of Bulgaria Review
The Burgas Region of Bulgaria is one of the most developed regions in the country. Situated in the southeastern part of Bulgaria, it is the second largest region after the Sofia Region. The Burgas Region of Bulgaria has eastern and southern borders with the Black Sea and the Republic of Turkey, but is otherwise bounded by the Bulgarian regions of Shumen, Sliven, Yambol and Varna. The Burgas Region of Bulgaria is internationally known for its vinyards and wine production.
Agricultural activities play a large part in maintaining the economic structure of the Burgas Region of Bulgaria as well as the traditional production of cereals (corn, barley and wheat). Specialization in the production of grapes, almonds, sugar beet, tobacco, sunflower, apples and cherries all add to the Burgas Region’s development. These provide about 30% of the Burgas Region’s revenues. Some 2 to 5 million Bulgarian and foreign tourists visit the area annually to enjoy the long swatches of pristine golden sands that are only interrupted by dramatic cliffs that jut out into the Black Sea. The Burgas Regions thermal mineral springs offer attractive conditions for recreation and relaxation.
